  • Simple Question

Can a computer crash from simply overloading the hardrive?

what do you mean by overloading and what do you mean by crash??
    try being more specific.

Theoretically i find it very unprobable that too much harddrive activity can restart/freeze the computer. However a harddrive can fail, but not really due to overloading or whatever you mean.
sorry that the reponse sounds weird, but give more info plz

Yeah sorry about the lack of information. A "friend" of mine said his computer "crashed" (was no longer working) because his hard drive was overloaded. I personally don't beleive thats possible. I think he had a virus or something.

your OS needs a certain amount of "recommended" free space on your hard-drive to operate "properly". so, if your buddy has like only 200 MB left on his HD, then the OS can become unstable due to the fact that there isn't enough VM available.

this though, is all in theory and has never happened that i know of, and i have tested it to the limits before.

so i'd get your buddy to run a few virus scans and such, or check his power supply if the computer is just conking out (only if it's shutting off without warning).
