    UN finds global inequality rising
    By Susannah Price
BBC correspondent at the United Nations

A UN report has found that the world is more unequal today than it was 10 years ago, despite considerable economic growth in many regions.

This year's report on the world's social situation argues that although living standards have improved in some places, poverty remains entrenched.

The authors warned that focusing only on economic growth is an ineffective way of achieving development.

They said wealthy nations are the main beneficiaries of economic development.

The UN report - drawn up by the UN's Economic and Social Affairs Department - found that the gap between rich and poor is now wider than it was a decade ago, and called for immediate action.

The report focuses on worldwide inequality in income and wealth, along with other areas such as health and education.

    'Redistribution'

The report said that although China and India had seen considerable income growth, there was a wide income gap.

It said it would be impossible for the 2.8bn people living on less than $2 a day to ever match the consumption levels of the rich.

The UN secretary general said the report showed the development agenda could not be advanced without addressing inequality, such as the gap between skilled and unskilled workers and between the formal and informal sectors.

The report recommends expanding opportunities for productive employment, bringing marginalized groups into society and working to distribute the benefits of what it called the increasingly open world economy.

Socialism. The majority of the world aka the working class needs to unite and get rid of people like you and other counter-revolutionaries.

            That's not the point.

Some people think that as Capitalism moves forward, so do the working classes. This report just says that inequality is RISING, instead of lowering as the Capitalists would like us to believe.

China is a fascist shithole, it's not socialist. There are also large capitalist areas of the country, like Beijing for example.

                      We have established that.

If we go Socialism, all economic classes fall.

You laugh, but we live the best here in the United States? Why is that. We would not be anywhere near our current level if we were a Communist nation. That is why the USSR collapsed. That is why Cuba and North Korea are like 3rd world in almost their whole country, and that is why China and Vietnam are becoming more and more Capitalist every decade.

This is true. If the whole world were socialist, then the US citizen would unlikely be living in the luxury that they're living in today because as of today, the US hogs so much of the wealth. However if you're speaking of Socialism in One Country, then the living standards would rise for the average person, as seen in the USSR and Cuba (China probably as well... I haven't looked into that.)

A few Venezuelan factories have been taken over by the workers and if they ever need managers, they're elected. All the profits go towards the community surrounding the factory and the workers themselves. There is no high end profiteer. The factory which was previously run by the standard Capitalist hierarchy was less efficient than the socialist run factory. Hence, when the workers are working for themselves, they accomplish more in the same time frame and therefore raise the standards of living for themselves.

For every dollar you make, it signifies, in a final sense, for every dollar another person in the world won't make.
