  • cardio question??

    I was wondering if playing soccer outside running around for about 30 minutes would burn more or less the same amount of calories as you would burn on a treadmill, or elliptical trainer?

    The reason i'm asking is I get bored of using the treadmill, and although i am getting very noticeable results i wanted to try something different, and more entertaining

    i play soccer too, and run on a treadmill. i'd say the treadmill is more effective since it's nonstop, but being in the sun helps too...

      Depends what you are doing on a tredmill.


      I see better results running hills/road runs then on tredmills.

                      Here is a chart that was in a "Men's Fitness" article from The American College of Sports Medicine's Resource Manual for Guidelines for Exercise Training and Prescription.
                      It lists various activities and the amount of calories they burn per hour. I don't know how accurate it is but it might give you some ideas on how to add variety to your workout.

                              Glad you asked I specialize in kineseology and sports performance/nutrition. In terms of doing cardio to burn fat I suggest 16 minute of non-stop and grueling energy expenditure (running or on a treadmill). But the most effective cardio technique is to go on a recumberant bike so that u never have to worry about losing balance and falling off, therefore you can exert maximum enery expenditure. Your body utilizes fat for energy the hours following and elevates your metabolism up to 5 hours. But if you are trying to build muscles then you should maintain 2-3 intense cardio sessions a week because it inhibits free testerone utilizaton for muscle growth.
