  • Bike riding over running

I've been riding my bike around this summer at night and I love it. Great form of exercise and it beats running so bad. Here are some reasons I have gathered up.

    1. You go a lot faster (Average bike rider goes 12-15 mph while average runner goes 4 mph).

    2. You in turn get to go a lot further with the same effort

    3. Doesn't put as much stress on your bones and joints from the pounding on the ground.

    4. You can go on all terrain's easily with a mountain bike.

    5. (If you're a girl or fat) You're boobs won't bounce everywhere. For girls I don't recommend biking.

I can't think of anything else really, but it is a lot better. If you are just starting to work out, just want to lose weight, or want to get more toned then you should definitely consider biking. It is easy to start getting into and is very fulfilling.

I'm not expecting very many responses because hardly anyone posts here I just wanted to say why biking kicks running's ass so bad.

I love biking too. I don't have a car so I ride it almost everywhere.

You bring up some excellent point blair, however, I do think running is more beneficial.
Biking, if you're just starting an exercise program, is a great choice to begin with.
Like blair said, its puts a lot less pressure on joints and you're less likely to become injured.
But, if already experienced in your exercise program, running plays a more effective role.
It is way more beneficial for cardio, in my opinion.

Yeah, I think in the end running may be a little bit more beneficial especially in sports. Your body gets used to things like running and you don't use a bike in any sports. All in all I still take biking over running because it is still good for you.

Honestly it feels great everyone should do it.

Totally agree with blair, do what feels right.
Because, any exercise is good exercise.
I try to take a 5km jog every day, if possible, its splendid.

I think running burns a lot more calories than biking, I hardly break a sweat after I'm on the bike for 20 minutes, whereas I feel like dying after I'm on the treadmill for 20 minutes...

Most defiantly, its a much better workout.
Yet, some people are either not trainned enough to run on a daily basis, or they do not really enjoy the experience.
If you like running, then by all means keep it up.

Because running you're not sitting down and in a relaxed position.. if you work at the same heartrate whilst biking as running, im sure the calories you burn would be roughly the same.

I have joint problems in my knees and down which were made worse when I used to run, bikes are nice and smooth

                    Not exactly.
The terrain is a dominant variable. With Riding, lets say you hit a hill, when you go down you coast. Thus means no calories are burned.
With running your body needs to work harder to adapt to the terrain.
I don't know if I'm explaining this well.

I feel like I'm somehow cheating if I get on the bike or elliptical instead of the treadmill

                        no, don't think like that.
Keep a strong and positive workout schedule that works for you, and indulge yourself in a healthy wholesome diet.
Any of the three exercise equipment are all beneficial.
