  • Favorite Performances by an Actress

We talk a lot about Depp, DDL, Bale, etc., but I just wanted to know what are some of your favorite female performances.

Here's a few of mine that came quickly to mind (in no particular order)...

    Diane Keaton in Annie Hall
    Naomi Watts in Mulholland Dr.
    Frances McDormand in Fargo
Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs
Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind
Marion Cotillard in La Vien Rose

    What are some of yours?

I'd agree with you choices, but i actually prefer Naomi Watts' work in 21 grams to Mulholland Dr.

    Also...
    Cate Blanchett in The Aviator
    Ellen Page in Hard Candy
    Audrey Tautou in Amelie
Scarlett Johanssen in Lost In Translation
    Maggie Gyllenhaal in SherryBaby
    Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich

My mind doesn't seem to be able to made it further back than the mid-90's at the moment...

I'd agree that she is, definitely, there's only one or two of her films i like, Erin Brockovich being one of them.

First that came to mind was Naomi Watts in Mulholland Dr. She's so good in that, like the way she auditions for the film, plays the character in her dream and then herself, just really versatile and convincing. I was also thinking Scarlett Johnasson in Lost in Translation although I'm not sure she did an awful lot except look sexy, I still liked her in it though. And although I haven't liked everything Kate Winslet has done, in Eternal Sunshine she was amazing, I loved the way she was the crazy, outgoing woman contrasted with Carey's close-mouthed shyness, it really worked.

Felicity Huffman made a surprising turn in Transamerica. I felt she was much more deserving of the Oscar that year than Reese Witherspoon..
