  • Mos Def is a good actor.

Tbh, I think Mos Def is one of the greatest rapper-turn-actor out there but he's so damn underrated everywhere he goes. He's been nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy. He's never won an award but he's been a nominee several times. I think he should be put in a higher position than other actors that were put into supermega blockbuster films, like Orlando Bloom in the Lord of the Rings & Pirates of the Caribbean and Brendan Fraser in the Mummy.

A couple of his good movies are Brown Sugar, The Italian Job (and soon to come the Brazilian Job), 16 Blocks, Dave Chappelle's Block Party, and Something the Lord Made, from which he received a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination.

I agree. I actually think he's a pretty damn great actor. 16 Blocks and The Italian Job are two of my favorite films.

And his countless appearances on Chappelle's Show always equated to hilarity.

I thought Mos Def was already acting before he started rapping, so technically he's an actor turned rapper. Is there any truth to that?

But yeah, he's a great actor. I was most impressed with his performance in Something The Lord Made where he held his own opposite Alan Rickman. He was also very solid in The Woodsman opposite a great Kevin Bacon.

He could have been, but his stage name is Mos Def and that's what he's still credited as in the movies.

Best rapper turned actor will always be Mark Wahlberg.

i've liked him in everything other than Be Kind, Rewind...the movie is funny when they are actually making the movies, but other than that, pretty lame IMO...but there's no doubt he shined in Something the Lord Made...great movie

Be Kind Rewind was good for what it was. A blank canvas for Gondry to show off his visual creativity.

And the best rapper turned actor is Will Smith. Then Walhberg, Pac, Cube, etc.

And Will Smith of course, like TWIB said, but I meant an MC that is still active in both acting and rapping...like T.I., Common, etc.

Because when Will Smith does his movies he's just credited as Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg is credited as Mark Wahlberg, not Marky Mark. Mos Def is credited with his stage name, not Dante Smith. You know what I'm saying?

This is true. He was an actor before rapper. (well technically he was rapping before acting hence his Mos Def credits but made it big as an actor before being known for his rapping)

I thought so. I looked it up and his first few acting jobs do credit him as Dante Smith and not as Mos Def

Also, while were discussing fav rappers/actors here (something that always happens when a topic about one particular actor/rapper is created lol) gotta give some love to the often forgotten Queen Latifah.
