Dr. Howard Miercwiak does and his technicians do the operations but they have trouble with Joel when he decides he doesn't want to go forward with it in the middle of the operation.
Critique:
In his continues effort to establish himself as a legitimate actor and not just another silly comedian, Jim Carrey takes on another dramatic role which has a fair amount of comedy. He joins such stars as Titanic's Kate Winslet, Spider-Man's Kirsten Dunst and Lord of the Ring's Elijah Wood. This time however he comes out with the best movie he's done closely followed by "The Truman Show".
Adaptation's writer Charlie Kaufman did a great job on this movie. Very well written and gets the point across without having to use long conversations which is what makes these movies boring sometimes. The director also helps with that by drawing some confusion with his style to keep the audience thinking throughout the film. He also shot the film using digital cameras I think which gives it an indie feel.
The stars deliver great performances as expected. Carrey and Winslet stand out, of course, because of their longer screen time and more demanding roles. Elijah is probably the most disappointing although he did not have much time to do anything but he showed no emotion and did not give any clear indication of the character's personality. It left it basically up to the viewer to guess and it seemed like an important character to be left as such.
Entertaining is the keyword to describe this film. Most movies of late which had the same message as this film were either too romantic or ended up being cheesy or too dramatic and ended up being boring. This film finds a good balance and the comedy Carrey brings makes it even more entertaining. It's also thought provoking and interesting. It makes you think back of times you wished to forget something acknowledging only what bad it's done and forgetting any positive impact it had on you.
There are really no clear problems with this movie. There were some minor issues about the execution and the camera movement. Also a few things are not very clear in the plot but they can be easily overlooked.
Looking for an interesting, entertaining and moving film about relationships and life? This is the movie you want to see, if you want to be entertained but don't like to think then check out "Dawn of the Dead".
