  • First beat ever. (reason users, i can use your help)

    http://www.soundclick.com/bands/song...songID=5026951

please ignore the first 15 seconds of the drumline.

    thats where i need help.
that was supposed to be my intro. with no drums.
but in reason it automatically loops the drums to play the pattern there the whole song. can anyone help me out with that?

    and some feedback please?

    I don't know shit about reason...so can't help ya w/ that part...

but...I believe the drum pattern to be extremely plain...the percussion in general...need a good bassline...

The horns are alright...idk...the beat doesn't seem...full...if you get what I'm sayin'...

Not a bad start though actually...

yeah it's not a bad start... I agree with what Axis said about the drums and the whole beat... I think you'd need more instruments to make it sound "full"... it sounds like it's always the horns that plays the melodies... but I liked the part at 1:05, that was nice... so if you try to layer more instruments, and work on your drum patterns, that would help you get better... keep it up

and I don't use reason, so I can't help you either lol

        FL Studio > Reason

anyways the beat was aight for a beginner. It sounds like somethin Swizz Beatz could've done. Needs alot more work, but nice for ya first beat.

I think its a bad drum kit. The sound are just bad.

The chorus is cool. I like that.

The verse horns are too fast/cut for the tempo IMO.

          Needs bass.

          Keep it up.

as u can see from above use the timeline to layout the song.

channel 1 level is set to volume level 0 untill 3 then it will turn up to 100 thats how i track it out anyways

Hey bro for Reason drums whatever drum pattern you want (you know how they have patter 1-9 i think) on the drum machine. Well lets say you only wanted to use pattern 1 for 4 bars, you would place the play indicator (the line that says p in that white area where the sounds are recorded) at the beginning of the 4 bars, then on the drum machine, right click, then find the "copy pattern to track" option, then select it. Then if you want another pattern for another amount of bars, you would do the same for that pattern. But while in playback, make sure the drum machine is on a blank pattern, otherwise the real time drums will be playing over the drum pattern you copied over the track & make it sound all fucked up.

If u ned it in simpler detail pm me

nahh man that isnt the way to do it..and also theres 64 steps to the drum machine.

the best way is to use muting or like i said before just use volume automation

There's a few ways to do it. You COULD just simply record in real time by just switchin' the patterns(btw I know what the steps are, I didn't mean the steps, I meant the PATTERNS 1-8) at the due time. The way I was describing basically gives you better control if you don't like doing real time. Like I said, there's a few different ways that work, you just gotta find which one is easiest for you, ya dig?!

ive messed with fruity loops. i will never touch it again.

in all actuality this was the first drum kit i fucked with it.
the pattern only consists of a 3 diffrent hits.

thats actually what i did. just switched the pattern in real time.and for the first coupel steps i had a blank pattern, then switched it over to pattern1 and pattern two. etc etc. it still played. pattern 1 for the first couple steps. hence the 15 seconds of pattern 1
