k here is a part of a poem from edgar allan poe's "a dream". i love his writings on dreams bc i find them fascinating to say the least. his grips of the dream world and the real world are amazing.

"in visions of the dark night
i have dreamed of joy departed-
but a waking dream of life and light
      hath left me broken-hearted."

i love that bc recently i have had a lot of dreams where i have been involved in something that i miss in reality. i wake up feeling hurt and it puts a major damper on the morn.

love to hear what your thoughts on this or your own works are. post up.

go ahead and drop song lyrics here.. song writers are modern day poets, just working with music instead of actual schemes of couplets.

cool i didn't want to go look for my dantes inferno lol

"The more the light shines through me
I pretend to close my eyes
The more the dark consumes me
I pretend I'm burning, burning bright"

thats the chorus to Shinedowns song Burning Bright.
for me its just one of those songs that i can just kind of relate to. it manages to put alot of what i feel into words.

            "There must be something
            In the way I feel
That she don't want me to feel
The stare she bares cut me
            I don't care
You see so what if I bleed

            I could never change
            Just what I feel
            My face will never show
            What is not real

A mountain never seems to have
            The need to speak
A look that shares so many seek
            The sweetest feeling
            I got from you
The things I said to you were true"

Thats from "I Could Have Lied" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Ive liked it for ages, I thought the lyrics were good and then I got into a situation where I could relate to the song and I like it even more.

              These were written by Mike.

              ~ No Less Then Forever~

I'm invisible to those I love, visible to those I hate
I'm twisted and not straight, all these problems I create
It's clear that fate has left me without any soul mate
I'm a rose down to its last petal, wilting, I'm dying
I can't keep lying to myself, there is no more denying
I fight to survive; I envy the dead, but remain alive
A fulfilling life and a peaceful death is all I contrived
So I continue to thrive to figure out why it is I am
The way I am, why I feel cut off from the rest of them
The earth is a penitentiary, with our own invisible cell

              ~If I Cant Have You~

I bleed for you, my blood is yours
I burn for you, you ignite the flame
You're too present to ever ignore
This love we have is not a game

                FEELings (Equilibrium)

A while ago I saw the movie Equilibrium. In the movie, enforcers known as Clerics have the mandate to murder those who have feelings, considered Sense Offenders, to assure world peace and the survival of the human race. Everyone therefore has been put on obligatory doses of Prozium, a drug that dampens the emotions and shuts down our sensual side.

Besides that it's a good movie, I really felt the part (in the movie) where a so called Sense Offender speaks in a poetry kind of way about feelings.
                -------------------------

Feelings are just as vital as breath
                And without it
                Without love
                Without anger
                Without sorrow
Breath is just a clock, ticking

                (from the movie "Equilibrium")

shinedown has some excellent lyrics, they can always be interpreted a different way depending on the person and the time they are going thru. great band.

anther small set of lyrics i love are from lifehouse's song 'spin':

"i'd rather chase your shadow all my life
than be afraid of my own
i'd rather be with you, i'd rather not know
where i'll be then be alone and convinced that i know"

just reading that, i know that whom ever wrote the song felt very strongly for whatever it was that piece was about, i have always been able to relate it to something in my life whether it be a girl or just friends.

This is actually the whole poem
                    but it's all good

Things that make the Heart Break

                    Pretty Smiles
                    Deceiving Laughs
& people who dream with their eyes open
                    Lonely children
                    Unanswered cries
& souls who have given up hoping
The other thing that breaks hearts
R fairy tales that never come true
& selfish people who lie 2 me
                    Selfish people just like u...

                      Edgar Allan Poe

                      Romance
I have no time for idle cares
Through gazing on the unquiet sky
And when an hour with calmer wings
Its down upon my spirit flings -
That little time with lyre and rhyme
To while away - forbidden things!
My heart would feel to be a crime
Unless it trembled with the strings
... it's no surprise, that I got lost in your brown eyes ...

                        The Difference
I got up early one morning
                        and rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish
that I didn't have time to pray.
                        Problems just tumbled about me,
                        and heavier came each task.
"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered.
                        He answered, "You didn't ask".
I wanted to see joy and beauty,
but the day toiled on, gray and bleak
I wondered why God didn't show me.
He said, "But you didn't seek."
                        I tried to come into God's presence;
I used all my keys at the lock
                        God gently and lovingly chided
                        "My child, you didn't knock".
                        I woke early this morning,
and paused before entering the day
I had so much to accomplish
that I had to take time to pray

since we're sharing poe, heres a poem called 'to --'

"i heed not that my earthly lot
hath little of earth in it
that years of love have been forgot
in the hatred on a minute:
i mourn not that the desolate
                          are happier, sweet, than i,
but that you sorrow for my fate
                          who am a passer-by.

i like it bc it relates to my past loves, all have been such a great meaningful time to me yet have been erased by the hatred of one small thing.

More a song, than a poem but...

Ive lived a thousand life times
To find a soul like yours
A soul so pure and brave it takes my breath away
                            Ive ran a thousand miles
Ive beaten down a thousand doors
Im not gonna let you, just turn away

So kiss me with your eyes
                            Marry me with your heart
                            Love me with your spirit
                            Promise well never part

So kiss me with your eyes
                            Marry me with your heart
                            Love me with your spirit
                            Promise well never part
                            Well never part

This is from an episode of The Crow:Stairway To Heaven. I loved these TV episodes, and when I heard this song being performed, I was hooked to it.
I first heard it when I was 12/13. Didn't mean to much to me then, but it is a very sweet song, even more so when performed.
... it's no surprise, that I got lost in your brown eyes ...
