  • The GREATEST WR EVER Retires... Jerry Rice Announces His Retirement...

It's sad to see Jerry Rice go, but really, the Jerry Rice we marveled didn't just walk away from football on Labor Day. He has been running a slow fade route for years.

The fact Rice was able to play until he was 41 was a testament to his unsurpassed ability and unsurpassed dedication. This was a true professional who found ways to do things at an elite level even as his skills diminished.

When I saw the Broncos practice in training camp a few weeks ago, I thought Rice looked like just another receiver. It was the first time I had that impression after watching him practice many times. In previous years, he always stood out. I remember watching him practice with the Raiders. As a 38-year old, I thought he was the most dominant player on the field. Four years later, I'm still amazed by what I saw that day.

The burst that defined him through his years with the 49ers already had begun to diminish by that time. That burst is what made Rice special. You know the story. He wasn't the fastest receiver around. But he was able to accelerate incredibly quickly and create separation from defensive backs. In Bill Walsh's offense, he was the perfect wide receiver.

Of course, he would have been great in any system. He was the best receiver I ever saw play. Really, he was the best player at any position.

    Goodbye Jerry Rice!!!
Here's a video tribute a niner fan made for him..

he could have been the 3rd or 4th receiver for the broncos this year and pad on to his already amazing stats but he chose to hang it upnot enough guys like that anymore...they all try to play and pocket the money till they're grandparents

My favorite reciever... Ever. He is the best, period. No one will ever come near him.

Ponder these numbers. Marvin Harrison, Jimmy Smith and Isaac Bruce are the top three active receivers and their receiving yards are more than 11,000 yards behind Rice's career total of 22,895.

Randy Moss is 13,753 yards behind. The great Terrell Owens, who was supposed to Rice's replacement in San Francisco, is 13,123 yards behind.

Those numbers say it all. There will never be another Jerry Rice.
