  • Steve Nash to win his second straight NBA MVP

PHOENIX -- Steve Nash will win his second straight NBA Most Valuable Player award, according to reports on several area newspapers.

The announcement may not come for two weeks, according to the Arizona Republic. But the paper, and others, report that the voting shows Nash edging LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups and Kobe Bryant for the MVP.

This season, Nash had career-highs in points (18.8 points per game), rebounds (4.2 per game), field goal percentage (51.2 percent) and free throw percentage (92.1 percent -- best in the league). He was also the league-leader in assists (10.5) and shot nearly 50 percent from three-point range.

The Suns are currently playing the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

A year ago, Nash edged Shaquille O'Neal in what was the fourth-closest balloting in history.

What makes Nash's season soooo amazing? 10 years from now you wont be talking about how decent Nash's season was, but you will be talking about how spectacular Kobe's was. 63 against Dallas in THREE quarters, 81 (second highest in any NBA game, I dont care who it is against, I dont see anyone getting that much) against the Raptors, and 35 PPG. And the sheer fact that his team is so trash that would not even have 20 wins. Kobe for MVP. Nash won it with sub-par stats last year, I dont see why he should win it with only slighty better, but not amazing, stats. Just watch tonight people... Kobe will destroy the Suns, they arent playing a "team" game Jackson said... Oh yea, since when does Nash guard the best player on a team? Kobe usually does that day in and day out.. And Nash sucks on defense, anybody can tell you that. The award goes to Kobe, it will be one of the biggest robs ever if he doesnt win it.

^I'm a little biased when it comes to the MVP votes, but I dont think any one player could win a whole series against the suns.

btw, if you want the bias to stop, you have to stop being a fan of Kobe too.

You wont remember Nash, 10 or 15 years from now. Kobe's 81 points will be a reason to remember him.

By the way, Kobe followed Phil Jacksons game plan in game 1. Work the inside, and keep your shots, unless needed, to a minimum. Tonight, Phil will let Kobe run wild. And you will see how great he does if his team plays like they did last night.

Armstrong: Lakers in six. Because in the end, courage and the heart shall prevail over reason and logic.

Great article to read, wether you are pro-Nash, pro-Kobe, anti-Kobe, anti-Nash. If you like this series, thats a great read.

i honestly hate to say it..........BUT I TOLD YOU SO! i think me and ONE other guy voted for nash in that mvp poll a couple weeks ago. i explained the main reason why nash was gonna win it and for those of you that didnt read that its plain and simple why he won it. he went to a team that went 29-53 the year before that had amare, joe johnson, mcdyess and shawn marion. bring in nash and qrich while you lose mcdyess to the pistons. team does a complete 180 and goes 62-20 and makes the conference finals. hand nash the mvp trophy since he has totally turned a horrible team into a championship contender. now comes this season..........he loses qrich, joe johnson, AND amare (all except 2 or 3 games). in comes boris diaw, raja bell, james jones, and leandro barbosa. if that was an actual trade it would make the babe ruth to the yankees trade look good. not only did nash lead this team to another division title, but they won 54 games. and all those players i mentioned above that the suns added this year had career years. even shawn marion had his best season statistically speaking this season.

ok now what did kobe do? yes he did have a bunch of games in the 50s, a couple 60s, and that 81 point game. and yes he did lead the lakers into the playoffs, but besides san antonio, dallas, and phoenix the western conference is pretty weak. i mean the new orleans (ok oklahoma city) hornets damn near made the playoffs with a rookie leading them. also what has kobe done for his teammates this season? did he help turn kwame brown into a better player? no, i think kwame is a bigger joke now more than ever. did he help lamar odom become an elite player? no, actually lamar odom had his second worst season ever. his worst season was when he was hurt most of the season and only played in 29 games. the only player that really improved this season for the lakers was smush parker and he averaged 24 more minutes a game this season than he ever has so what do you expect?

the nba mvp is rewarded to the player that not only does well himself, but also plays the biggest role in the success of not only his team, but his teammates too. this is the main reason that nash is going to win his second mvp title and the only kobe news you will be hearing about is his number change for NEXT season. sorry kobe lovers, but steve nash truly deserved to win this again........enjoy buying the new jersey and better luck to kobe next season.
