  • Gerald Green 2007 Slam Dunk Champion

    Saturday February 17th 2007
Boston's Gerald Green had the night's three top-rated slams, including a perfect 50 on his final flush, to dethrone defending champion Nate Robinson and become the 2007 Sprite Slam Dunk champion. On the last jam, Green windmilled while hurdling an All-Star table. In the first round, Green caught a Paul Pierce lob off the side of the backboard and flushed it home for a 48, and then covered his eyes while jumping over Robinson himself for a 47. His first-round total of 95 edged Robinson (90), Orlando's Dwight Howard (85) and Chicago's Tyrus Thomas (80).

First Celtic to win it since Dee Brown
FINALLY something to be happy about if you're a Celtics fan

Props to Gerald Green, he deserved it. Nate was better this year but still Howard should've been a finalist. I still can't believe that 12'6" dunk with that sticker.

It was just funny because before the dunk contest he asked if they could raise the rim to 12 feet for him and they said no....so he just took a sticker and slapped it on the backboard basically mocking them for not allowing him to raise it.

They are biased against big guys, if they aren't going to judge them properly why even invite them?

EDIT: Did anyone catch what he wrote on the sticker? You could see some writing and they mentioned some writing, but I never heard them say what he wrote on it.

This contest has been absolutely terrible the last 2 years..The last good one I remember is when Jason Richardson was still in it..Jason Richardson could do some good dunks.

Last year, Nate Robinson just won cuz he's short(fucker got like 10 chances and got tons of pity scores)

This year, Nate Robinson almost won cuz he's short, and Gerald Green won cuz Nate Robinson sucked ass so bad it was impossible for him to win...While Dwight Howard had the only good dunk of the night and didn't even advance..

and the way the judges score every time is so lame...One of the dunks near the end always gets a 50, no matter how wack it is. and they always start out "slow" with their scoring and build up...Jordan pretty much even admitted this on the air.

there should at least be one player from this pool...Kobe, Lebron, Vince, and D Wade.

i understand kobe and vince may be to old to hop, but they still got explosiveness. and Lebron is shorter than Dwight Howard, why isnt he in it? Lebron wears 23 for goodness sakes. its his job to be the next Jordan

Yea, Lebron's never even been in the contest, that's lame..At least Vince and Kobe were in it when they were younger. Now the NBA has these rules though where you gotta be in your first 3 years as a player to be in it, as its called the "rising stars" dunk contest or whatever.

But there's no doubt they'd erase that in a second if one of those guys wanted to be in it. NBA has to put forth the effort to invite them to be in it again and give them some incentive, but it's not gonna happen and we're just gonna keep having these no names in it..I honestly haven't even heard of Gerald Green before yesterday...

Lebron and Wade are the only ones that could be in it as they're still in the beginnings of their career. However they won't even do it because they take themselves seriously and are NBA icons already, whereas Slam Dunk contestants get kind of a gimmick label to gain some popularity, as players that aren't very good in the other aspects of the game but they got hops. Look at the last 3 dunk contests, the only noteworthy name was Howard.

Kobe, Vince, Lebron, & Richardson. Those 4 against each other. That would be the greatest dunk contest ever.

Green's 1st dunk was good, IMO the best of the night, followed closely by Dwight's sticker dunk.
