Square Enix Confirms Worst Fears of Chrono Fanboys

According to an interview with Cubed3's Adam Riley, Square Enix clarified its previous statements by stating that it has no immediate plans of producing a sequel to the much beloved Chrono series. While it is not out of the question that a sequel may surface some time in the future, it is not in the planning stages at this time, states Square Enix Vice President Hiromichi Tanaka. Furthermore, a reappearance of the original Chrono Trigger, either on Virtual Console or some other port, is also highly unlikely due to the logistics of copyright details, as well as the original creative team having gone their separate ways.

Tanaka then went on to state that it is also unlikely for Final Fantasy XI to make an appearance on the Wii, despite being one of the few next gen systems that FFXI has not graced with its presence. Tanaka made an initial claim of the Wii's hardware restrictions being the primary reason for its exclusion, but further probing revealed that problems regarding friend codes are indeed the true culprit. Nintendo is currently in talks with Square Enix to resolve these issues as swiftly as possible.

Those who hoped for better news from Square may want to go here for a bit of sustenance (at least until the North American page gets up and running).
Well no Chrono Trigger in the works for Nintendo but what can ya do? I guess we cannot really complain seein all the love Nintendo has been recieveing once again from the company. But it is sad to hear them say it. I do not see why they do not release at least the 3d version of the game that was supposed to come out on the N64.
