Hard questions: Wii novelty and drought in effect?
Posted Feb 18th 2007 1:00PM by Alexander Sliwinski
    Filed under: Nintendo Wii

CVG decided to unleash the beast question: Is the novelty of the Wii wearing off? The drought is in full effect, but in all fairness, the same can be said for the PS3. The Virtual Console games are rolling out slowly, but old games to those who don't need to ask for mom and dad's credit card do not a console make. The Gamecube turned Wii games are good and fine, but where are the Wii games?

CVG says, "Most prominent is the first batch of games, many of which do a better job at exposing the obstacles of full motion control, rather than the benefits ... Red Steel is twitchy and occasionally clumsy, Need For Speed: Most Wanted is near unplayable, Far Cry got it all wrong, and the motion control in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance just feels tacked on."

The Wii is selling well enough and its Gamecube backwards compatibility, along with the VC, is a good distraction for many to not realize there isn't much of a Wii offering yet -- once again, the same can be said for the PS3. Oh well, don't be surprised to see more Wii backlash until there are some legitimate offerings this Christmas.

the drought wont be in effect yet, the drought will be soon after all the games have come out, Nintendo did this with the 64 and GC IMO, they released all the good games quickly after it came out and no games came out again for another 2 years

^ I doubt that will happen considering Wii is getting the most third party support that Nintendo has ever received.

i hope so, but look at it atm Mario and Metroid are coming out in march and zelda is out, some of the biggest franchises and there out in 4 months after release.

thats a bad thing? are you saying having no good games for ages then having a lot of good games, is better than having good games come out at a steady pace

This article is immediately suspect to me since Need For Speed: Most Wanted doesn't even exist on Wii. And saying Need For Speed Carbon has bad controls is laughable in it's lunacy.

Also, Far Cry may have bad graphics, but it's controls are totallly flawless.

Zelda:TP is a GC game, mirrored and adapted for the Wiimote. The Zelda purely developed for Wii won't be coming out for at least another two years.

id rather have games out at a steady pace, all the games come out in the first 4 months, 2 months later you have finshed them, what then?

it happened with the GC, loads of great games came out at launch and then there was about 1-2 games a year to look forward to. if you look at the PS2 and Xbox there were shitloads to look forward to im comparision to the GC

                  EDIT:
yes 2 years for the next Zelda, Mario, Metroid, i dont know about Star fox but im assume theres one going to be coming out soon and again 2 years for the next one.

So 3 (maybe 4) of the top franchises wont have another game out in 2/3 years. While the other consoles tend to have a game out year after year of there franchises.

Its only my opinion so its kinda hard to explain and the Wii has only just come out so im only making assumptions, it has alot more 3rd party support so hopefully what i say wont happen

Need For Speed Most Wanted has already been available for like 2 years now. Carbon is the sequel. Most Wanted will never come to Wii.

The last Zelda "in it's current form". Which could mean pretty much anything.
