usaully when ppl get reptiles is so they can look cool.. never knowing how much it take to take care of them. these aren't dogs, some reptiles can live easily up to 50+ years. i was going to buy a baby ball python but thought it over and decided i'll get one once i have my own place and can take care of it better (and know that i can take care of it for many years).

People get iguanas because of their price, they're easily obtainable and relatively easy to take care of. I have two of them myself which I house in a custom cage that I built. What you need is to do a lot of research before getting anything. You need to know how fast they grow, what they eat, how much room they need (this is especially important if you're putting more than one in the same cage as if there is not enough room they may fight resulting in death), how may you can put in a cage together, water, temperature, temperment, if they should be handled and how often.... they're are many things to consider.

My next project is to build another cage that I already have designed which will house bearded dragons.

Here is my cage and a description of what I have in it.

                          Cage: 72"h x 64"w x 28"deep
                          with
4 heat lamps (2 day and 2 night)
2 uv lights to promote digestion and bone growth
automatic misting machine with built-in timer
fog machine hooked to a seperate timer
2 surge protectors each with built in timers (2 day outlets/2 night outlets/4 constant outlets each) which I have the lights hooked up to for day/night
                          large heat rock
space heaterto heat the inside of the cage when my room is too cold (ie air condition or winter time)
vines from walmart (no need for the expensive ones they sell in pet stores
branches from outside (thought its a good idea to soak in hot water or mild dish soap to kill any unwanted organisms, just make sure they're washed clean thoroughly.)
digital temperate gauge so I know whether the temperature is right.

All in all, my cage came to over $800 with wood/plexiglass and all accessories.

Here is a picture I just took 2 minutes ago.

And a snake is also a reptile. And no, same issues arise with a snake. Same care is involved but it differes slightly when dealing with different species.
