Simple Grade 10 Math question

I'm doing the review questions assigned for my grade 10 math exam on monday (tommorow) and i got a question about a question in the text book.

16. triangle DEF has vertices D(-2, 4), E (0, -2) and F (6, 2). Determine...

a) an equation for DG, the median from D to EF
b) an equation for FC, the altitude from F to DE
c) an equation for AB, the right bisector of DF

first off what is an altitude, median and right bisector??

The text-book answers are:

a) 4x + 5y = 12
b) x - 3y = 0
c) 4x - y = 5

The solutions (showing the steps) to those questions would be greatly appreciated

no.... but i need to know how to find the equation of an altitue of a triangle.

for example, to find the equation for DG, the median from D to EF, you find the midpoint of EF, then you find the slope of DG, then you use "y - y1 = m (x - x1).

but how do i find the equation for FC, the altitude from F to DE

first find midpoint of DF

( (x1+x2 ),(y1+y2) )

( (-2 + 6) /2, (4 + 2) /2 )

(2, 3) <- midpoint of DF

the find gradient of DF using (y2-y1/x2-x1)

you can do that yourself, it gets you -(1/4)

then since the bisector is perpendicular, it is equal to 4

(m = -1/n)

then just use y-y1 = m (x-x1)
