Screenshots of films

i wanted a new avatar so i put in one of my dvd's and played it on my puter, then i paused it and took a screenshot.
i then went into paint and pasted my image...all i had was a blank screen.
ive tried so much taking screenshots from windows media player and my dvd player but it never works :s. cany anybody tell me why?...or how i can get round it

Tools>Options>Performance

Slide the bar all the way to None. (No video acceleration).

ok now i have another problem, after i have my screen shot i cut a certain bit out and paste it on a new page....but i dont get the bit i cut....instead i get the top left bit of the printscreen in the same size as the pic i just cut...if you understand what i mean

Use photoshop. Get away from paint.

well the same happens when i use paint shop pro and animation shop...the pic go all weird when i printscreen a video

I have no idea what to tell you. I'd still try photoshop, but I dont know. Hopefully someone can help you. Sorry man.

My method is to get a '.vob' downloader (I don't know which since I haven't done it in a while), then use "DVD2AVI" to rip the source and put the source into "TMPGEnc Plus"...then scree capture it and put it in photoshop...they are the flawless/cleanest way to get the shots since they are straight from the .vob and nothing is ever converted...

on my dvd player i have a little icon of a camera which lets me capture the picture on the screen of the dvd...though i dont know if thats on all dvd players

I'm not sure what you mean. Try to post a pic of what it looks like when you try to do it. I just tried it and it works fine.




^Picture quality is shitty only because I got the movie the day after it was released in theatres. Other than that, works perfect.

i cant take a printscreen for you...because it looks fine...until you try cutting the bit out that you want....then when u drag it away it goes behind the rest of the screenshot...even when i cut it and open a new document...anyways i understand demon's way of doing it now...because i use TMPGEnc anyways...
