Question about CDs on computers

I use Easy CD-DA Extractor 4.6.0. It works pretty well for me. It lets you select the quality of the songs and the type of file you want it to be, too. There's probably better out there but this works perfectly fine for me. I've used it for years with no problems.

Whenever I put a CD in my CD drive on my comp, all the songs are displayed as 1 Kb files, I'm guessing their just links to the cd or something.

Now how can I turn them into mp3s, so that if I want to take a CD I already have, but want to change a few songs, I can do that without having to download them all again.
