well i have nero 5 and it says for a VCD (video cd) you need to burn either .avi or .mpg files . . . . whenever i drag and drop an .avi file, i click burn and then it says "encoding video" which, depending on how large your file is (which in your case is a huge one) could take an extremely large amount of time . . . . .i had a 70 mb file and it took like an hour or two . . . . maybe there are other programs that encode much faster . . . . dont know of any at the moment . . . . hope this helps!!!!!!

you have an .avi..... you need to convert to an .mpg file!! a program called TMPGenc is the best tool, its free....
go to http://www.pegasys-inc.com and get the program TMPGenc plus.

Open TMPGenc and First thing is to go to Options----Environmental Setting----VFAPI tab-----and raise the priority of DirectShow Multimedia File Reader (this allows to convert .avi's)in the project wizard menu, go to Video-CD-- NTSC-Film. then just search for your avi to convert.

Check the other settings like noise reduction and Quality

Then just click start, and it will convert to a .mpg-1 which is VCD standard. but make sure to see if your DVD player can read VCD Format, my DVD player can only play VCD on a certain Disc (memorex-CDRW 80min). GOOD LUCK
