  • Russell Simmons & Twista Offer Assistance For The Katrina Victums

As relief efforts from Hip-Hop artists continue to abound, Russell Simmons is rallying New Yorkers to donate supplies at The HoodAthon while Twista is slated to hold a free concert in his native Chicago.

Simmons is asking New York residents to bring supplies to The HoodAthon in Queens, New York's Occasions Catering Hall at 128th Street and Merrick Boulevard tomorrow. Items like water, can openers, men, women and children clothes, flashlights, towels, blankets, toys for kids and backpacks are welcomed. The HoodAthon will begin at 10 am and run until midnight. In addition to supplies, Simmons is also asking that residents donate money as they need to pay $14,000 for the four trucks and four drivers that will deliver the supplies directly to Houston and Mississippi. The owners of Occasions Catering Hall have also allowed the HoodAthon to use their business free of charge.

Meanwhile, Twista is slated to take the stage during a free concert sponsored by Budweiser in Chicago, Illinois's House of Blues this coming September 19th.

The concert will be an opportunity for local businesses and the Chicago public to donate food, clothes and money to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"We as a people need to stop pointing the finger of blame and help our fellow brothers and sisters in their time of need. This is not a game, we are in a national crisis," Twista stated.

The Chi-Town emcee is also calling on Atlantic Records staffers, artists and local Chicago artists to land a helping hand at the event. Furthermore, Twista is asking Chicago residents to help out and contribute to relief funds.

"Remember God gives us each special talents to use in his time of need. Let's handle this," Twista offered in a statement.

Russell Simmons' HoodAthon takes place in Queens's Occasions Catering Hall tomorrow from 10 a.m. to midnight while Twista's free concert is slated for September 19th at Chicago's House of Blues.
