With his debut album, Listen, scheduled to drop this summer, Terror Squad's DJ Khaled chopped it up with SOHH.com about his "classic" album and addressed rumors of Remy Ma's defection to G-Unit.
After ruling Southern Florida through Miami radio station 99 Jamz and numerous mixtapes, Khaled is slowly but surely making his mark as a producer. Khaled, who produces under the name Beat Novocain, is now set to appear on future projects from Young Jeezy, Fat Joe, Jae Millz and Dre of Cool & Dre, among others. But the DJ isn't content with playing the background. He's now poised to drop his own album, Listen, through a partnership with Koch Entertainment.
"I've always wanted to drop an album even before I started radio," Khaled told SOHH.com. "I wanted to be in the game fully. I wanted to be a producer/DJ. When I drop my album, the work that Biggie put into Life After Death, the work that Nas put into Illmatic, the work Fat Joe put into Jealous Ones Envy, the work Jay-Z put into the Black Album, the work that all these big rappers put in, I put in on my album. I put an album [together] and each song is very important. I made a classic."
Though he claims it wasn't done deliberately, Listen features two songs starring former nemeses. One cut sees Jadakiss teaming up with Beanie Sigel, while the other features Chamillionaire and Slim Thug. Khaled has not time to dwell on petty feuds. Still, he takes the time to respond to rumors that Remy Ma is soon to sign with G-Unit.
"Remy is family," Khaled revealed. "She's Terror Squad. I was in the club with her Sunday night (March 26) and I seen the Terror Squad swinging across her breast. She ain't never told me she's going to nowhere else. Joe ain't never told me she's going nowhere else. And if she is, somebody gotta talk about some paper work because Joe Crack is the Terror Squad CEO. We heard rumors, but she ain't never tell us so she's Terror Squad."
DJ Khaled's Listen, featuring Fat Joe, Kanye West, Nas and Pitbull, among others, is scheduled to hit stores June 6.
