Talk is swirling through the music industry today that Arista Records has shuttered its doors and is officially closed for business.

Arista Records, home of a bevy of top artists including multi-platinum duo Outkast, Da Brat, BoneCrusher, Whitney Houston, Kelis and Usher, has folded according to the word on the streets. The artists and management have not been notified according to sources and no official announcements have been made.

Last week, SOHH.com reported The Neptunes were already on the outs with the label, having called their staff abruptly to announce "We're leaving Arista." The production duo whose label, Star Trak Entertainment, is under the Arista umbrella has several artists including the Virginia-based Clipse who've already been affected by the shakeup. The Clipse's sophomore effort, originally scheduled for a spring release, is now uncertain.

Industry insiders are predicting that flagship artists such as Whitney Houston and Pink will move under the parent BMG fold while urban acts like Outkast and Usher will go to Jive. The Neptunes are rumored to be taking The Clipse to Jive and Rosco P. Coldchain may go to Universal. Artists with less than stellar records could find themselves homeless.

With the exception of Outkast that's not much of a loss. I can't stand clipse or neptunes or bone crusher. Whoopty doo.

Clipse are pretty tight, I feel their vibe although 90% of their material is 'coke' and 'gats'...

so why would Arista fold when it has the biggest selling album of the year in the UK/europe, a collection of top10 albums in the US and owned some of the grammys top awards... it makes no sense, so i'd say its bullshit... but we'll see
