P.DIDDY SEPARATES STAR-PERSONA FROM COMPLEX THEATRE ROLE

In preparing for his lead role in the upcoming opening of ‘A Raisin in the Sun’, Sean “P. Diddy? Combs has turned his eyes from mic to script and focused intensely on his work for the Broadway show. Combs’ character, Walter Lee, is the struggling father at the center of Lorraine Hansbury’s 1959 play which explores issues about family, class and race. Originally portrayed by award-wining actor Sidney Poitier, Lee’s character is a complex and challenging role for Combs’ stage debut.

Play director Kenny Leon described the character, saying that “Walter Lee is a man who has his good side and his bad side and his wrinkles and his warts and his smooth side. He's a smart man, he's an intelligent man - he's not just an angry black man.? Despite Combs’ minimal prior experience in acting with small roles in Monster’s Ball and MADE, Leon believes that the mogul is just the right man for the role. “I want somebody who can make me believe the three-dimensional quality to Walter Lee,? he said. “Sean has crafted a Walter Lee that allows you to understand the man.? ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ also stars Tony winner Audra McDonald, Phylicia Rashad and Sanaa Lathan, and opens to the public April 26.

Among Hollywood actors known for making childrens’ movies and playing the speaking roles in animated films, rapper-duo Outkast were recognized at the 17th annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday. Andre said. “We're having a great time, and it is so great to learn how to read. You have to read, that's it, and count, and all that type of stuff. Stay away from drugs.? Big Boi added: “We love you, yeah. And don't forget to tell your parents to get out and vote.? The awards, in which children vote for their favorite actors, musicians and athletes, also recognized actors including Jim Carrey and Amanda Bynes, as well as pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk for Favorite Male Sports Star and famed soccer player Mia Hamm for Best Female Sports Star.

award was broadcast live from the UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion on the Nickelodeon cable network. Viewers voted for the winners online and by phone.
