  • Browser-Based Attacks on the Rise.

Security analysts say Browser-based attacks are on the rise and pose more of a security threat than some might think. A survey of nearly 900 organizations found that 36.8 per cent were plagued by one or more browser-based attacks over the last six months. The figure is up from 25 per cent in last year’s survey by CompTIA , the Computing Technology Industry Association.

The report said that attacks by worms and viruses were still considered by IT staff as the biggest threat. However this figure was down from 80 per cent the previous year to 68 per cent. A browser-based attack could just mean you surfing to a web page and your browser automatically download or run malicious code to infect your computer with a virus, spyware, or a trojan horse. The result of this type of attack can be very silent because you would never know what has happened, until it is to late. Your personal information could easily be stolen, files wiped, or your computer could be setup by the attacker to launch attacks on web sites.

John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA said, 'The explosion of dynamic, created-on-the-fly web pages, which often incorporate individual personal preferences, is exposing organizations' IT systems to new security threats.

Micrsoft's Internet Explorer is the most vulnernable browser mainly because it's the most widely used browser. Why would an attacker try to exploit computers running Mozilla or Opera when over 85% of users use Internet Explorer.

To help keep your system secure and safe, I would recommend using Opera, Mozilla, or Firebird. If you prefer to still use Internet Explorer, you may want to display ActiveX and maybe even Javascript within Internet Explorer advance options to help beef up the security in Internet Explorer. This may provide some protection against attacks.

Yeah it's fucked up when you can't even get on a website without pop-ups coming (even if you have a blocker), and trying to install spyware and shit.
