  • This Is What Was Written In XXL About Searching For Jerry Garcia

Check the Motown history books: Prior to eminems mainstream takeover, Marshall was simply a novice being groomed by d12 associate Proof. Sibe Em'd rise to prominece, however, Proof has had little opportunity to show and prove himself. With Searching For Jerry Garcia, the Detroit veteran finally steps out of the superstars shade. Named after the greatful dead frontman who passed partly as a result of drugs and stress, the album finds Proof examining so vices in his own life. While hes succesfull lyricly, scatterd production lapses and youthfull overzealousness shows that Proof isnt quite ready for solo light.
When spitting cancer serious with a gruff voice, Proof sounds intriguing. Guests Obie Trice and J-Hill match Proofs hardened bars on the marauding "72nd & Central" and on "Clap wit me" the self-monikered Dert Harry serves Rock City-bred Emiles swiftly sampled horn section, forcefully warning, "Elliot Ness to these fuckin gangstas and killers/Banking there millions, they all wankstas and squuealers".
While cleary deft at intimidation, Proofs bread and butter proves to be introspection. Gutwrenching conffesions pour out on the 50 cent-assisted "Forgive Me". More sorrow previals on the lyrical suicide letter "Kurt Kobain." Atop Emiles morbid organs, Proof drops pure pain: "My heart is big, but my sins are bigger/Fuck The World I dont feel like i can win, *****s."
Had proof dug deeper internally, though, Searching... could have been darkly superior. Unfortunatly, light-hearted yet sophomoric far emerges, "Biboa's Theme" annoys with bizzare declarinations ("Having free phone sex with operaters"), while the grating "girls wit the boom" widely misses its club target. Elsewhere, second-rate beats make equally lame verses worse, particulary Jewels insipid, rolling percussion on "No. T Lose" and the vile piano-and-horn meshing of "Jump Biatch."
Though he falls short of his potential, Searching For Jerry Garcia proves that Proof is more than just a shady beneficiary.
    XXL Rating: L

What do yall think of this i thought it should have atleast got a XL or even XXL, i think its the best solo album from D12 since The Marshall Mathers LP.

Lyrics are tight as hell, but i see what they mean about the production.

S4JG is much better than encore. The production wasn't amazing but I don't think thats a good reasong to give it that score. It deserves much higher. Hopefully people will realize this

I don't compare Proof to Eminem, and don't compare their albums. Encore - i'm still listening to the cd. S4JG - really good album. yeh, it should have got xxl rating, thought some beats there were really lame... but lyrics are real, really good
                            I don't know it's just the way i am...
