  • New Gorillaz Album

just letting yall know the gorillaz have a dope new single out featuring de la soul called "feel good inc", and they are coming out with a new album called "demon days" in may 2005. just wondering if anyone remembers gorillaz, they were that animated alternative hip hop group that had the hit single "clint eastwood" back in 2001. if you do know who im talking about, what do you think of them? the gorillaz are brilliant in my opinion. so original, and their music is fuckin sick. i mean, they may be kind of mainstream, but how could i not like a group with dan the automator and del tha funkee homosapien in it?

here's a link to watch their new video - "feel good inc"

here's the track review from www.pitchforkmedia.com along with a link to hear the song without the video.

        Gorillaz: "Feel Good Inc."
        genre: hip-hop

        Stream this track

I always thought Noodle, 2-D, Murdoc, and Russel sold better as a concept than as album. Like it'd be dope in theory if the Neutrinos got together and sold mixtapes out of the trunk of their flying Cadillac, but we all know their shit would be all B-52s covers. (I mean, they are from the future.) And in spite of a lucrative first outing, no number of Jamie Hewlett promotoons could save the tragedy of Laika Come Home.

So imagine my chagrin when "Feel Good Inc." (after the "Dirty Harry" white label fiasco) makes good on another Damon Albarn roundup with the always luminary De La Soul. Virgin shouldn't even bother with a press release; just virally distribute the ring tones and it's instant fiya.

Danger Mouse got the nod for this cut and mushes some Spy vs. Spy, ulterior-motive basslines with one those electro key flurries that drops the ass out of Prince's chaps. And Trugoy's "We gonna ghostown this Motown" with Albarn's visions of flying windmills? Totally adds the requisite shiver. Nice work kids! You made a hit! [Jamin Warren]

it comes out may 24th, and some interesting news i just found out about the album, mf doom is going to be featured on it, and unfortunately dan the automator isnt producing anything on it, instead he will be replaced by dj danger mouse (the grey album, beatles + jay-z).

Albarn, Danger Mouse Reveal Gorillaz LP Info

                        Rob Mackey reports:
Straight from the pages of Billboard, here's a bit of news on those annoying/endearing animated gorillas, Gorillaz. As previously reported, Blur frontthrob Damon Albarn has dusted off his relationship with Tank Girl creator Jaime Hewlett, scooped up hip-hop producer Danger Mouse, and recorded the second Gorillaz album. The new news is that the album now has a title-- Demon Days-- and a sexy May 24 release date to get all excited about.

Their sophomore offering-- co-produced by Mr. Mouse and Albarn himself-- is purported to be a smidgen more menacing than the band's cheeky self-titled 2001 debut. Keeping that in mind, who does dark better than Speed/Waterworld/Blue Velvet villian Dennis Hopper? Yes, it would seem that the Hop takes a turn at spoken-word on the record, although he's not the only guest over the course of the 15-track animated romp, as do the London Community Gospel Choir, De La Soul, Ike Turner, the Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder (the fat one in 24 Hour Party People), Roots Manuva, and the masked wonder MF Doom, who Danger Mouse has worked closely with in the past-- all of whom crash the pixilated party. Unfortunately, the band couldn't be reached for comment, but over at its official unofficial fansite, a small interview with 2-D and Noodle went something like this:

Noodle: The soul of the recording can't avoid being a manifestation of the time, climate and location of the place we were in when it was recorded. Consequently the colours are rich, dark and heavy while the rhythms are clean, strategic and relentless. It has a consciousness to it.

2-D: Like someone has taken the first album and coloured it in.

                        So, there you go. Tracklist:

                        01 Intro
                        02 Last Living Souls

IM, I have to agree with you on this, Gorillaz are badass. "Clint Eastwood" and that song about 'get the cool shoe shine' was pretty tight too.

                            Gorillaz = Gimmick...

I still love them, though. Gorillaz were VERY VERY active with their fans. On their old message board, a member or two would post at least twice a day. I remember I had to import their cd from the U.K. because I didn't feel like waiting till it came out in the U.S. And Del is in the band. He's actually some kind of voice in Russ's (drummers) head. That's how the story goes, anyway.

And rumor has it.. 50 Cent wanted to originally name his group "Gorilla Unit" or something, but then Gorillaz came out and he had to change it to "G-Unit"
