  • The Difference Vol. 1 review

This a compilation put out by OFFICIAL JOINTS, entirely produced by super producer DOMINGO (aside from Deacons Joint produced by himself) and has DJ- JS1 contributing all the scratches (aside from Dilated Peoples joint done by DJ Babu of course). Features many Great legends (Krs-One, Big L, Kool G., Royal Flush, Dilated Peoples, Sean P., Cocoa Brovaz), and some newer cats (Tonedeff, ILLSTAR, High-N-Mighty, Rise, Punch-N-WORDS, and others) the combination of old and new works very well to let you know where you’ve been and where hiphops going.

The Intro beat has some guy talking about not knowing who started music, which brings the respect the architects theme of the album together. This is followed by the very strong Dilated peoples track, the beat on this knocks and Rakka and Evidence rock the mic properly with Babu dropping some nice scratches.

This is followed by the High-N-Mighty’s “Rumble” joint Mr. Eon is dropping the usual EC ill rape your girl while masturbating to angry sex porn, but the Domingo beat actually makes it really enjoyable and draws attention from the fact that Eon sounds like got deep throated too many times. Next is Sean P. AKA Rucks cut with the Kentucky representatives ILLSTAR(Now KYNFOLK signed to QN5 music, they make Nappy Roots look like amateurs) contributing to the hook and sounds like a snoop last meal type hook from kokane and Sean P. Rips it with his verses with some good ol’ bucktown shit, and of course Domingo produced another bangerade.

K-Slash Feat. Mr. P.R. “Shut em down blow em up,” is the first time ive heard of either artist and I like what I hear K-Slash has some nice verses and Mr. PR has a dope ass hook and another dope beat. Next is the reason most probably bought this the KRS-One Nelly diss “Clear Em’ Out” featuring the equally excellent Tonedeff who contributes a dope verse but this track is clearly dominated by Kris with a verse like this some wonder why did he do sneak attack edited “I am the incarnation of what you do/ When you try to forget KRS, I try to forget you/You tired of me saying what's real hip hop/ Well I'm tired of you biting my shit to go pop/ This is why we need hip hop history/ 'Cause if we had it, you knew you shouldn't get with me/ I'm free, I don't need MTV/ I could smash your click like 1-2-3/ You think I care if you plat-in-um/ Where I come from, we be slappin' em' uh Sales dont make you the authority/ It only means you sold out to the white majority/ What you know about seniority you ain't major/ Ya whole album appeals to little second graders/ Grow up already, before I slap that hiny/ And put you out of work like Tavis Smiley/ I got that razor tounge, you be on the ground with paramedics saying "We can't save this one"/ I stay alert like red, you keep sucking me uh 'cause you think I'm ahead/ But you ain't street soldier, I'll take one of ya members/ Cut off his head and send it to Lisa Evers/ We will be here for ever and ever and ever/ While you'll be over by next September” ouch the St. bernards should really feel ashamed, and even more disturbing is the line we got a million master p’s shudders the horror ughhh.

Next is RISE’s joint “From the child to the MC” which is again another dope song with a tight beat and nice verses. Then we got Punch-N-Words ode to New York over a nice smooth Domingo beat, truly beautiful.

More bucktown shit with Cocoa Brovaz joint “Play No Games” with animal cub and Mr. Yuk. Good shit here normal boot camp shit and again another dope Domingo beat the piano loop kills it. Now the ugliest man in the world CRAIG MACK over a trumpet laced Domingo beat and makes me wish puffy didn’t fuck him over honestly lets not have anymore-shiny suits. I wish hed battle 50 so this come true “My raps too server, your careers wont last till next year, kicking mad flavor in your ear”

Deacon the vil is next up with his self produced track “Watch yo mouth” and has a Dr. Dre lay low type feel, and deac spits ill shit with his southern twang. The return of Royal flush with Big L and Kool G. and its dopeness right here, royal flush kicks a nice verse, and big l (R.I.P.) shows up why he was a great, and Kool G. is just Kool G. dope, its over a soul type Domingo beat and is a great way to end an already strong compilation. The only flaw is that its originality is that great but it’s doesn’t matter with just straight enjoyable shit.
This is a marvelous comp. Very enjoyable

    Beats- 5/5
    Lyrics- 4.5/5
    Originality- 4/5

    TOTAL- 4.75/5

    Coming Soon- Cunninlynguists- SOUTHERNUNDERGROUND

sounds ill...domingo is a underrated producer...he laced the latest non phixion joint, "caught between worlds;" i wonder if that is going to be on non phix's green cd, or maybe a possible future release from domingo?
