Is battling and freestyling dead?

It's a fact, NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY freestyles anymore comin' with their written shit 'n all....... even into battles now.......... hip hop's becomin' weak in that perspective because freestyling is a gift.... not every MC can do it and if they can, they usually can't do it well....

IF YOU'RE TRULY FREESTYLING:

- you fuck up at times, stumble with words
- say somethin' you don't mean
- say a lot of mindless things often
- and ain't rhymin' 4-5 syllables with crazy punchlines throughout the whole thing

even JUICE, the greatest freestyler to live this day, admits that he mixes it up - between frees and writtens.............

but I think that definitely takes away from the art of freestyling because when someone actually frees (REALLY), they don't sound as good as the guys on mixtapes supposedly freestyling.............. as an MC, I think this hurts the game and takes away from the true ability of this art.........

it may be dead in the mainstreems eyes.....but there are still plenty of legit battles that go on, for example the freestyle superbowl that took place a little it ago.........that was a legit battle, regardless of how tight it was (boston crowd was real real weak).......but you just got to find them....... go to emceebattles.com they got some shit there

it is true tho, alot of freestylin and true battlin is dead. But I love freestylin shit off the top of my head, sure i fuck up but most the time u come up with crazy shit. Personally, id rather lose then go in spittin written shit.... its not creative or talent.... and i havent lost in person so i guess it works for the most part cuz i think real fans can tell whats written and whats freestyled

Using written shit is fucked but think about it, some may come naturally just from saying it so much cause you think it's tight. Then there's also the fact that maybe you can't think of shit, bust out some written shit and sound good. That way you win, get a good rep, maybe eventually get a record deal. As much as it's gay, it's also smart.

^ true true, u cant really stop it, but as a preference normally when u hear a 'freestyle' by me its off the top.... in battles too, and sometimes they sound wack but its just fun to do i guess, it what makes it fun, but i def know what ur sayin about deals and shit

Freestyling and battling are still alive, and go on all the time. They don't get a lot of shine, but they never really did. You won't hear real off-the-top rhyming on mixtape freestyles. At battles, if you ain't improvising and relating your spit to your opponent, people will realise you're rhyming writtens and you'll get booed, or at least lose unanimously.
