  • Album Review: Sage Francis' Personal Journals

here's a review of pj's i decided to put together to set the album review thing off... feel free to discuss and critique

    Personal Journals
    Sage Francis

One half of the Non-Prophets, sage francis managed to do what no other rapper has been able to do (atleast to my knowledge)-make a very personal album, and by that i mean sage francis introduced him to us personally. After releasing a set of Sick Of Waiting Series' he came through with his debut solo...
The Cd starts off with Crack Pipes which is an amazing journey, his wordplay and feeling he put into the song is amazing, this song leads perfectly into the next track Different, which really portrays what this whole album is going to be about....Sage Ends the song with "by the end of the album ill make sure you all know who sage francis is" which is exactly what sage francis does. Personal Journalist is lyrically one of the better songs, while songs like inherited scars, broken wings, specialist, and pitchers of silence take you down his personal side..... Climb Tree's is another lyrically insane song. Runaways is classic Sage, it adds to the personal side with a side of lyrical genius.
The Production of the cd is perfect of the content of the album, if the production was on another cd it would be terrible, but the content of the cd, and sage's style are ideal for the production. My only knock is that the Strange Famous Mullet Remover in my opinion would have been better off as the intro then led into crack pipes.
This album is nothing short of genius, there is not one single wasted word, you have to pay attention to every song, every minute, every word that sage says to fully enjoy the album, and for someone to pull something off like this in their debut solo is great, sage proved he belongs in rap's elite especially with this ability to wordplay and his lyrical talent

    Album Rating
    Production: 7/10
    Lyrics:10/10
    Overall:9/10 (not an average)

    hopefully this was good enough

Nobody is perfect so 10/10 can't be true I'm sure there better lyrics then him.

honestly sage francis is nothing short of perfection lyrically on this cd, there is not one bad line, there is not one wasted word... the lyrics on this cd is pretty much perfect, but you also have to see where he's comming from and be open minded to appreciate the lyrics

I'm not a big Sage fan, this album seemed more like a poetry album than a hip hop album

          Production: 6.5/10

          Poetry: 9/10

he does have good lyrics though

            beats - 8.5/10
            lyrics - 9.5/10
            overall - 9/10

i think it just falls short of perfection with lyrics and for he most part, the beats were great.

"Runaways" is one of my favorite songs ever.
