I don't know a whole alot about underground and I'm just starting to learn more and more, but one thing I notice with underground is EVERYONE has their own taste. For instance Islamic Marksman says Jedi Mind Tricks- Violent By Design is one of the greatest undergroud albums but I got a friend who knows alot about underground and he's says their just solid.

yeah that's the great thing about underground, it's so diverse it has something for everyone. underground artists dont give a damn about mass appeal, most of them try to cater to a very specific audience, so in turn they develop an extremely devoted cult following. i like a lot of different styles of underground hip-hop, everything from hardcore gangsta rap to emo-rap, but when i listen to jedi mind tricks or sage francis i feel a personal connection that i get from very few other artists. i wouldnt expect many other people to feel that type of connection to the music, and that's what's so cool about it. it feels like they are making customized music just for me and nobody else.
